OSI Group Has Built Its Current Success Out Of Principles That Have Been In Place Since The Beginning

OSI Group has built its brand into one of the most successful food enterprises in the world today. The company is one of the world’s leading food wholesalers and provides its customers with custom designed food options for all of their needs. The company has made customer service its main priority for its century-plus existence and this combined with a smart business plan of strategic acquisitions and partnerships have allowed the company to expand its reach to the global level. Today, OSI Group is operating its 65 facilities in 17 different nations across the world. This feat has been accomplished by utilizing business practices that have their roots in the very beginnings of the company in the early 1900s when it was founded by Otto Kolchowsky.

The OSI formula for customer service was evident even during the early days when the company was a mere local meat market in the Chicago, Illinois area. Eventually he transitioned his family business into the realm of meat wholesale distribution. This was the real start of the business formula that OSI Group still follows today. From those early days, the company which went under the name Otto and Sons was able to slowly expand its reach until it was a major distributor in the Midwest U.S. Major expansion for the company as far as becoming a global food powerhouse came during the 70s when Sheldon Lavin became a part of the executive team at OSI along with Otto’s sons Arthur and Harry.

Sheldon became the outright head of the company as CEO after the brothers retired and he remains in that role to this day. It was his vision that saw that the company could expand globally and use its business model to serve a worldwide base of customers. Notable expansion projects have not slowed down at OSI Group and the past five years have been full of major work on the part of the company to expand its operations further. This has been particularly true in Europe where the company acquired two major companies, Flagship Europe and Baho Food and also doubled its chicken production in Spain. This was accomplished by making major upgrades in the processing plant that OSI owns in Toledo.
